Roy's Ramblings : : March 2008

March already and things are definitely looking brighter. Most of our MGs will be throwing off their winter covers ready for the season ahead and a very busy season at that.

Thanks to all of you who attended the mid-monthly meeting at the Swan, Emery Down. It was a terrific turn-out yet again for a mid-monthly meeting and I was pleased that we were able to cover a lot of items concerning this year’s New Forest Run. With only three months to go before the actual Run things are gathering pace nicely. Entries are coming in and are already up on last year. John Anderson has pencilled in 70 miles of the route, Linda has come up with an alternative trio for the Saturday night entertainment slot and Malcolm Rumsey is liaising with the management at Exbury to ensure no stone is left unturned at the finish.

It was also decided to have a limited number of T-shirts printed (with appropriate logo) to mark the 10th anniversary celebration of this Run together with a free raffle for all entrants with an Owners Club Picnic Hamper and Travel Rug worth over £100 going to the lucky winner.

On the subject of refreshments a big thank you again to David and Sylvia (and Lee) who will provide packed lunches for everyone. However we do need to come up with a menu for the American supper on the Saturday night and a list of who does what accordingly. We also need a supplier for the bacon etc. on the Sunday morning prior to the start.

Forthcoming events: Now that the cars are out of hibernation there are a couple of events of interest to most of you. Firstly, the Cobweb Spin on March 9th. Jon Holt has volunteered and arranged a 45 mile tour, starting at Hatchet Pond and finishing at IBM Hursley, everyone is welcome, kick off at 10.00am. Secondly, there is the Chichester Area Gathering and Picnic at Arundel Castle. For those who haven’t been before it is a beautiful venue and a good local event for 1009 members. It would be nice to travel to Arundel in convoy so I will be taking names of those interested on club night.
