Roy's Ramblings : : January 2008

January 2008 - a happy New Year to all you MG owners in 1009 and beyond. By the time this newsletter is published the hustle and bustle of Christmas will have come and gone (I hope you all had a good one) and the New Year will be upon us. Our focus now will be on providing a full calendar of events for the year ahead, one which I’m sure will be every bit as eventful as 2007.

Our monthly meetings normally attract 30-40 people plus a few new faces. At 1009 we try to seek a reasonable balance which means that we try and please most of the members all the time and usually end up pleasing none of the members none of the time (well I think you know what I mean!). We try and organise a wide variety of events to suit most tastes right through the year. If you are thinking of coming along to a local area club, you could well find something to interest you at Southampton & New Forest.

The last and one of the best events of 2007 was the Christmas Dinner and Disco held for the second time at the Walhampton Arms on the Wednesday 12th December. For those who were unable to attend you missed a very enjoyable evening. I thought the carvery was excellent, I have never had roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with my roast turkey and stuffing before. In fact from soup starter to Christmas pudding I know everyone enjoyed the meal.

Following on from the Dinner, the presentation to the person you voted Club Member of the Year was unable to take place as for the second year running, as the member was not able to attend the party. The shield will therefore be presented to the winner at the first meeting of the year on 2nd January 2008 at the Empress of Blandings. I will not mention a name as we would like it to be a surprise.

Another very important date for your diary is Wed 16th January. This is the date set aside for our AGM, also to be held at the Empress, starting at 8.00pm upstairs (Webmaster's note: the meeting will now be held downstairs). Amongst other things we need a format for this year’s running of our 10th NEW FOREST RUN.

The next round of the inter- club Quiz League is due to take place later this month. 1009 have a good contingent of teams in the competition but face more strong opposition from Bournemouth and Salisbury - watch this space.

Happy New Year

Roy
