As we come to the end of the summer, many of our MGs will be put away for the winter again, but the monthly meetings still go on at the Empress of Blandings on the first Wednesday of every month. Attendances have really been excellent throughout the summer and the mid monthly meetings prove to be almost as popular. Anyone with suggestions for future MMMs just let us know, we’re always looking for new venues.
September was a quiet month on our events calendar but I was pleased to see all 10 cars that turned up for the Wessex Classic Car Show, held this year for the first time at Canford Arena, Poole. Although closer to home, it may take a little while to develop the same atmosphere that they had at Bovington Tank Museum, time will tell. Still it’s nice anyway at these events when the cars are parked on display and we all sit down for a good hot cuppa, perhaps some home made cake, and a friendly natter. There is always plenty of time to wander around later to see all the other cars on show and enjoy the rest of the entertainment. Worth another try next year I think.
A couple of 1009 cars were entered in the West Sussex MGOC South Downs Run Sunday Oct 9th. Starting at Petersfield the route takes you via the Downs, along the coast past Beachy Head and on to Eastbourne and The Western Lawns. All members completed the journey and said how much they had enjoyed the run.
Our efforts now turn to the festive season and the Christmas Dinner and Disco has been arranged this year for December 12th from 7.00pm. We are returning to the Walhampton Arms, Lymington, the price of the meal is £22 per person - this includes starter, full carvery (vegetarian alternative) and dessert. Wine is courtesy of our own kind treasurer - Linda, and there will also be a disco to round off the night. There are plenty of tickets left so see Linda ASAP. Don’t forget, it is also the time to nominate who you think should receive the Club Member of the Year Award. Get your thinking heads on and let me have your votes by the December meeting.
Tania has once again set out a format for a Friendly Quiz Night at the Empress on Tues Oct 9th starting at 8.00pm. Everyone is welcome and if you haven’t been before it is a really good fun night.
Other events coming up soon are a skittles night and an American supper (not together), dates to be arranged.
We are always looking for new ideas for things to do and it would be nice to organise at least one or two events a month over the winter period. The club has no committee and so we rely on members to put forward suggestions for activities to put in the diary.
Well done to Malcolm, Cat and Tania who travelled up to Basingstoke to attend the Hantsweb Awards. They were awarded joint second place, an excellent achievement given the high number of entrants, and certainly a feather in the cap for S&NF MGOC. I am told everyone enjoyed the presentation ceremony regardless of the result. A tremendous achievement.
