: : November 2007
November already, Christmas is just under 7 weeks away, and I haven’t even bought a sprout yet.
The MGs, however, have been polished, topped up with anti freeze and tucked away for the winter. I know a few members like to drive their cars throughout the year whether the vehicles are road tax exempt or not. There are some lovely winter days absolutely perfect for hood down motoring, wrap up well and away you go ---- keep it up.
Don't forget our Christmas Dinner and Dance on December 12th at the Walhampton Arms. Linda tells me bookings and payments have been coming in steadily so if you would still like to go it’s not too late, see Linda ASAP.
The December monthly meeting will also be your last chance to vote for this year's Club Person of the Year. The voting slips are in the November newsletter but I need them completed and returned to me by Wednesday December 5th. The presentation will take place the evening of the Christmas Dinner. Remember also to bring along your Secret Santa gift but no more than £5 please.
The club is now looking for events to fill the New Year diary and any suggestions will be very welcome. I am contemplating organising something for either Boxing Day or New Years Day, it could be a short drive with a stop for lunch somewhere or a nice walk perhaps, with home made mince pies, sausage rolls and a flask of coffee. Let me know your thoughts.
I am aware there are a couple of projects certain members have to complete that are scheduled for the coming winter months. Malcolm Rumsey, as everyone knows, is always seen driving his distinctive white MGB GT but he also owns a 1980 green MGB Roadster. He tells me that the work is nearly complete and, knowing Malcolm, that means there is little he hasn’t done. We look forward to seeing this new addition to the club ranks in the spring.
And sadly, Bryan and Tania Horrocks have had to resort to modern transport methods well maybe not Bryan so much), as their trusty little MG Midget is very poorly and laid up in the garage. Major surgery is required but I am assured that no expense will be spared getting the patient 100% fit and ready for the new season - good luck with both cars. If anyone else is working on their cars over the winter months, or is considering a winter project, let us know. We have members only to happy to advise or even help whenever possible.
The November mid-monthly meeting will be at Bluebeckers (the White Hart, Cadnam) on Wednesday November 21st where a skittles night has been arranged. Food is available (hot or cold) but I shall have more information for you on club night.
Dates for your diary:
- November 7th Club night Empress of Blandings
- November 21st Skittles night Bluebeckers
- December 5th Club night Empress of Blandings
- December 12th Christmas dinner- Walhampton Arms.
Funny story:
A man is fast asleep in bed with his wife when the phone rings at 3.00am. He picks up the phone and after a few seconds shouts. “ I don’t know ask the bloody met office.”
His wife asks who it was.
“Some idiot wanting to know if the coast is clear.”
