I would like personally thank Tania for her time as area secretary. She’s done a wonderful job and I was sad to hear of her decision to stand down. Thanks to Tania and others, the club is in excellent shape with steady numbers and strong monthly attendances. It is nice to see so many new faces that are returning month after month and also participating in events outlined in our newsletters and in Enjoying MG. I know Tania and Bryan will continue to support the club and I look forward to their company on many more outings in the future.
The summer is nearly upon us now and it was noticeable at last month’s meeting at the Empress with so many MGs in the car park, gleaming and ready for some classic motoring. The only problem facing us now is what events do we go to? Unfortunately most weekends will see two or more events taking place and choosing will be difficult. All areas try to promote their own particular attractions with well organised runs. They are all good value and well attended, choice boils down to the travelling involved. It’s a case of try it and see. Where longer distances are involved it is always nicer to travel up the day before and overnight camping, although not to everyone’s taste, is a sure way to interact with fellow MGers. Check out Enjoying MG for what’s on offer. Some dates of events that are coming up soon that I recommend; Regency Run - Sunday May 13th, Beaulieu Spring Auto Jumble - Saturday May 12th and Sunday May 13th.
All our efforts now though are directed at completing the final details for our own 2007 New Forest Run. Lucie tells me that entries are still arriving at a steady rate. I gave her a hand putting some of the entry forms onto the database and I was amazed at the amount of positive feedback contained in some of their comments. It seems 1009 has produced the right formula for a successful event. We hope this year’s new format will be received just as well. Exbury Gardens would appear to be an excellent choice for the finish. The fact that there is no designated lunch stop will give everyone more time to appreciate the facilities provided by our hosts at Exbury. Thanks to everyone for the hard work they have put in so far and with a final push I know this years run will be just as successful as in the past.
Finally - come on you girls! - if you don’t beat Swinner’s Winners in the final round of the quiz league I will give Tania her old job back. Seriously though ‘Here We Go Again’ have performed fabulously and, win or lose, they have done us proud. Looking back over the whole series everyone deserves a pat on the back for turning out. So well done to all four teams; Game Reserves, Wedunknows, Dimwits and Here We Go Again for turning out and travelling some serous miles in all sorts of winter weather. Thanks Tania once more for a well organised quiz series.
