Tania's Talk : : October 2006

September has been another busy month for the club, with various “end-of-summer” events taking place. The Wessex Classic Car Show at the Bovington Tank Museum was very well supported, with (I think) 12 MGs and a Volvo from 1009 (the Volvo being required for dog transport!) Again, an excellent show, with a huge variety of cars on display. The weather mostly held while we were picnicking, but shortly after lunch the rain started, and it was a shame that many people started to pack up and head off.

The mid-monthly meeting at the Waterloo Arms in Lyndhurst was also one of the busiest this year - or perhaps it just seemed that way because we almost took over the whole pub! And finally a Classic Cars on the Prom special - the Castle to Castle event took place on Sunday 1st Oct, setting off from Lulworth Castle and finishing at Highcliffe. Unfortunately, as this was for pre-1983 cars only, and the Midget is still waiting to be MOT’d, we weren’t able to enter. But I understand there were a few cars from this club that went along, and I look forward to hearing about it!

As we move into October, we’re probably nearing the time when some of you start to put your cars away for the winter. However, just because you don’t have an MG on the road doesn’t mean there aren’t still plenty of things going on. We have the first round of the now 4-Club Quiz Challenge, taking place on Thursday 5th October at the Empress (8pm onwards). Now 4 clubs because we have been joined by the Salisbury MGOC, as well as previous competitors Dorset MASC and Bournemouth & Poole MGOC. Dates & venues for future rounds will be in next month’s newsletter - apparently the Mountbatten Arms is being refurbished, so B’mth will be looking for a new venue. Also the venue that Dorset MASC wish to use have their own quiz night on a Thursday, so MASC rounds may be held on the 2nd Wednesday. Watch this space for more details.

Finally, on Wednesday 11th October, we have the first meeting for the 2007 New Forest Run. We need to start putting together some of the basics, like start, middle and finish, as well as the charity(s) that we wish to support. We’ll also be looking for volunteers to help with gathering sponsorship or advertising, and for finding suitable trade stands for the finish venue. Not to mention ideas for a Saturday night get-together - venue, entertainment, catering etc. So please give it some thought over the next week, and come along with your ideas on the 11th from 8pm. Or if you can’t make it to the meeting, please either give me a call or drop me an email.

"Dear 1009.
Thank you very much indeed for a superb Gym-CAR-na event at Copythorne. Great fun and another stand-out event for Region 10. Well done to everyone from 1009 who were involved."
Nigel Hedges, Regional Secretary ( & 1020 )
